Extra utilites

There are three extra utilites at this moment. You can make use of these to transform your videos. Use these tools outside the library. Make sure you have enough storage space to store the newly transformed video.

  • File format conversion: Convert your videos from other format to .mp4 which VDO supports in the library.
  • Optimize the size: If your video is coming straight out of the camera and huge is size, you can optimize to save disk space.
  • Resize video:This would resize the video to either smaller or larger dimension.

File format conversion

  1. Choose a video file by clicking on the 'Choose a file' button. This opens a finder browser window.
  2. Select a video other than .mp4 format. At this moment it supports .avi, .mov, .mkv, .webm, .wmv, .mpeg, .flv, .ogg
  3. Once you select a video. You will be presented with 'Start conversion' button.
  4. Click on the start conversion button and the process will start. Depending on video size, it may take from few seconds to few mins/hours.
  5. You can stop the process in between. And at the end it should show a alert saying where to found the new .mp4 video. Usually it's kept in the same directory as that of the original video.

Optimize the size

  1. Choose a video file by clicking on the 'Choose a file' button. This opens a finder browser window.
  2. Select a video and you will see a quality slider that lets you choose the quality from a range of 1 to 100
  3. Once you select a quality and click on the 'Start optimization' button, the process will start. Depending on video size, it may take from few seconds to few mins/hours
  4. You can stop the process in between. And at the end it should show a alert saying where to found the optimized video. Usually it's kept in the same directory as that of the original video.
  5. Note: This may affect the quality of the video, so, if you are not satisfied with the quality, you may reiterate the process till you are satisfied with the quality.

Resize video

  1. Choose a video file by clicking on the 'Choose a file' button. This opens a finder browser window.
  2. Select a video and you will see a drop down with generic width height combinations and additionally width and height input fields. Choose as you need.
  3. Once you select a width and height and click on the 'Start resize' button, the process will start.
  4. Very similar to previous two process, it takes some time, and you can stop the processing at anytime in between.
  5. At the end it should show a alert saying where to found the resized video. Usually it's kept in the same directory as that of the original video.

Notes: Avoid multiple of these utilities to run at once. Do stay in this extras section so that you get the confirmation on the process, though it keeps job running in background. Some of these activities are process intensive, So, incase you see the fan sound of your system is noticiable, stop the job.
