Companion Images

Not everything in your library is a video.

While videos are the primary focus of VDO, the software supports images as companions to videos. Companion images are visuals that enhance, represent, or provide reference for your videos. These can include screenshots, poster images, high-resolution thumbnails, and reference frames alongside your video.

All images remain tied to your videos and collections — so you never lose context.

Adding Companion Images

Adding companion images follows the same workflow as videos. VDO automatically detects images in commonly used formats such as PNG, JPG, and JPEG from your library root folder.

You can also:

  • Place images inside a watch folder
  • Drop them directly into the library root folder

If your library is already set up, simply add the images and restart the application — VDO will pick them up automatically.

Notes about Companion Images

  • Companion images are intentionally lightweight and do not support full metadata such as ratings, descriptions, or advanced categorization.
  • They support basic attributes like title, tags, and role.
  • Companion images can be linked to specific videos.
  • They are searchable.
  • They are not included in playlists.
  • VDO is not a photo editor — image editing is not supported.
